If the spell deals excess damage, you may destroy an opponent’s artifact or enchantment with mana value less than or equal to that excess damage. Its large damage plus conditional destruction makes it a late-game removal spell useful for clearing blockers and finishing planeswalkers while also answering noncreature permanents when the damage exceeds lethal.
