It has Fear and an enters-the-battlefield triggered ability that lets you pay X to give a target creature +X/+0 until end of turn and also has a conditional sacrifice clause unless a black mana was spent to cast it. As a 2/1 for {1}{R} with those effects, it can function as an aggressive threat and a one-time pump utility in decks that can supply black mana or exploit its ETB effect.
