It can be cast normally for {4}{B}{B} or alternatively by exiling the top three black cards from your graveyard, and it deals 3 damage to a nonblack creature and gains you 3 life. The card serves both as targeted creature removal and a small life-swing that can be used in graveyard-focused decks that can supply the alternate cost.
