When it resolves you choose a source; the next time that source would deal you damage this turn, the damage is prevented, the source’s controller takes that much damage, and you draw that many cards. The card combines damage prevention, direct damage to an opponent, and card draw to serve as both defensive protection and a potential tempo or card-advantage swing.
