Temper (STH-20) is an uncommon white instant from the Stronghold expansion. It prevents the next X damage to a target creature this turn and puts a +1/+1 counter on that creature for each point of damage actually prevented. The card scales with X, letting you both protect a creature and increase its size based on how much damage is averted.
