Desertion (SPG-31) is a blue instant from the Special Guests set that can counter a spell. If the countered spell is an artifact or creature, it is put onto the battlefield under your control instead of going to its owner's graveyard. This effect is a replacement effect that prevents the spell from ever going to the graveyard and can steal opponents' permanents when it resolves.
