Aether Spike (MH3-50) is a blue Instant from Modern Horizons 3. When it resolves you gain two energy counters and may spend any amount of energy to force the targeted spell's controller to pay 1 for each energy spent or have their spell countered. It functions as a tempo/control tool that turns stored energy into a conditional counterspell to tax opposing spells.
