Damping Matrix (MRD 161) is a rare artifact from Mirrodin that imposes a blanket restriction on activated abilities. Its effect prevents activated abilities of artifacts and creatures from being activated unless those abilities are mana abilities. The card therefore serves as a control tool that can shut down many utility and combo pieces that rely on activated abilities.
