As this enchantment enters, you lose life equal to your life total. You don't lose the game for having 0 or less life. If you would gain life, draw that many cards instead. Whenever you're dealt damage, sacrifice that many nontoken permanents. If you can't, you lose the game. When this enchantment is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you lose the game.

Lich (ME4‑89) is a black enchantment reprinted in Masters Edition IV that replaces normal life loss and gain interactions with card-drawing and sacrificial consequences. As it enters you lose your life total and you no longer lose for having 0 or less life, but whenever you would gain life you draw cards instead and taking damage forces you to sacrifice nontoken permanents equal to the damage. Its last ability causes you to lose the game if Lich is ever put into your graveyard from the battlefield, creating a high-risk, combo- or control-oriented deck axis.
