Baral and Kari Zev (MOM-218) is a legendary Human creature from March of the Machine that combines First strike and menace. Its triggered ability lets you, when you cast your first instant or sorcery each turn, optionally cast a lower mana-value spell of the same card type from your hand without paying its mana cost, otherwise it creates a 2/1 Haste Monkey Pirate token named First Mate Ragavan. The card supports spell-slinger strategies and provides both a recurring free spell avenue and a fallback creature token when the free cast isn’t taken.
