It can sacrifice creatures to scry and has an activated ability to exile the top card of your library for a chance to play it this turn while dealing damage equal to the exiled nonland card's mana value to any target. Its combination of card-advantage, graveyard interaction and direct damage gives it roles in value-driven or sacrifice-themed black decks that can exploit the exile/play effect.
