It enters the battlefield with ten ice counters and has an activated ability to remove them; when it has no ice counters you sacrifice it to create Marit Lage, a legendary 20/20 black Avatar creature token with flying and indestructible. It does not have a mana ability and does not tap for colorless mana, so its primary function is as a token engine rather than a mana source.
