It enters the battlefield with ten ice counters and has an activated ability to remove them for {3}; when it has no ice counters you sacrifice it to create Marit Lage, a legendary 20/20 black Avatar creature token with flying and indestructible. It has no mana ability and does not tap for mana, so its primary function is to produce the token rather than to generate mana.
