Desertion (CM1-4 foil) is a rare blue instant from Commander's Arsenal. Its effect counters a target spell and, if that spell is an artifact or creature, puts that card onto the battlefield under your control instead of letting it go to its owner's graveyard. This can be used both as disruption and as a way to steal opponent creatures or artifacts and immediately gain board presence.
