It is indestructible and acts as a creature only when your devotion to black is five or greater, and it lets you pay 2 life to draw a card whenever another of your creatures dies. It also has an activated sacrifice ability for {1}{B} that gives target creature -2/-1 until end of turn, providing both card advantage potential and a removal/tempo option.
