When this artifact enters, put a rope counter on target creature you control. At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player may pay {2}. If they do, they put a rope counter on a creature they control. Otherwise, exile this artifact and each creature without a rope counter on it, then remove all rope counters from all creatures.

Fraying Line (CLB 314, Rare) is an artifact from Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate carrying rope counters that interact with creatures. It enters the battlefield putting a rope counter on a creature you control and then forces players each upkeep to either pay {2} to add a rope counter to a creature they control or exile the artifact and all creatures without rope counters, then remove all rope counters. The card creates a recurring tax/selection mechanic that can protect some creatures while punishing boards that can’t or won’t pay the upkeep cost.
