Read the Runes is an instant reprinted in Commander 2016 that costs {X}{U}. It lets you draw X cards and then forces you to either discard a card for each card drawn or sacrifice permanents to avoid each discard. The card can be used as a large draw spell with a built-in tradeoff that lets you sacrifice permanents instead of discarding, enabling toolbox or sacrifice strategies.
