It enters with X +1/+1 counters and has layered damage prevention by removing counters, plus activated abilities that can prevent 1 damage or add a +1/+1 counter during your upkeep. Its upkeep-only three-red activation grows it slowly while the single-red activation offers flexible one-point damage prevention during the turn.
