It attempts to counter a target spell unless that spell's controller pays {2} plus {2} for each copy of Rune Snag in all graveyards, creating a stacking tax effect. This card is commonly used to disrupt opponents' key spells while remaining cheap to cast for a single blue and one generic mana.
