You may choose one or both modes: return a target spell or creature to its owner’s hand, and/or deal 2 damage to a creature or planeswalker and cause it to be exiled if it would die this turn. Its modal design lets it function as spell removal, a tempo play, or a tempo-plus-removal hybrid depending on which mode(s) you choose.
