When this artifact enters, put a rope counter on target creature you control. At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player may pay {2}. If they do, they put a rope counter on a creature they control. Otherwise, exile this artifact and each creature without a rope counter on it, then remove all rope counters from all creatures.

Fraying Line (HBG-257) is a rare artifact from the Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate set. When it enters, it puts a rope counter on a target creature you control and its upkeep trigger lets each player pay {2} to put a rope counter on a creature they control or else exile the artifact and creatures without rope counters, then remove all rope counters. This creates a recurring tax and board-clear tension that can protect marked creatures while penalizing boards that don’t keep paying the upkeep cost.
